While collecting a group of artifacts in a remote Tunisian town, archaeologist Howard discovers a gun smuggling ring. Taking an anicent inscription to heart, he decides to overcome evil, not by ignoring it, but going to meet it.
Well done tale, based on a Victor Canning novel of the same name. Howard and Aimee are charming together, enough so that their age difference isn't even worth noting. Hyde White is excellent as the worn-out piano player who finds his good side, as is Malleson, cast against type as a corrupt French policeman. This films almost seems like a Western in many ways; the good man riding into a backwater town and awakening the moral heart of its lazy and corrupted citizens.
